A tragic car accident has left popular Odia director and choreographer Sudhakar Basant left battling for his life. The bone-chilling incident occurred at Manguli Square in Choudwar. The incident occurred at around 3:30am today.
As per initial reports, Basant’s car reportedly rammed into a stationed truck near Manguli Chhak, suspected due to fog. He was reported trapped inside the mangled car and was rescued by a team of the Odisha Fire Services Department.
Following the accident, Basant was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. The intensity of the collision was so severe that the car had to be cut using cutters to safely remove Sudhakar and his friends from the vehicle. The driver and his assistant director Raghu were inside the car with Basant.
On being informed, fire personnel rescued all the injured and first admitted them to Tangi Hospital. After preliminary treatment, they were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for better treatment. Preliminary reports indicate that Sudhakar has sustained severe injuries on his head and chest. He will have to undergo a CT scan to check for any brain surgery.
Speaking to OTV, actor Shakti Baral said, “Basant had been to Baripada and was on his way back home. It is still not clear what happened and what led to the accident. Luckily, a PCR van was nearby and they were rescued. His assistant Raghu had a close shave with just no injuries while the driver sustained injuries on his head. His hand is also broken. Basant, on the other hand, has sustained severe injuries on his head and chest.”
“Most of our colleagues from the industry have arrived here. We are planning to shift him to a private hospital for better treatment. We are speaking to his family members,” he added.
Worth mentioning, Sudhakar Basant primarily works in the Odia film industry and has directed the popular movies ‘Mitare Meeta’ starring Arindam Roy, ‘Omm’ starring Sambit Acharya and Illu Banarjee, ACP Ranveer, Matric Fail, Something Something, Balunga Toka starring Anubhav Mohanty, Daha Balunga starring Babushan and many other movies.
He is also a popular choreographer and has choreographed several films.
