At least seven members of a band party en route to Kamakhyanagar to participate in the Goddess Durga idol immersion ceremony sustained grievous injuries after a vehicle carrying them overturned mid-way. The condition of two was stated to be critical while five others have sustained injuries.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of Monday. The vehicle carrying the band party members from Jajpur’s Mangalapur area was en route to Kamakhyanagar. They were just 14km away from their destination, when the vehicle hit the divider, leading to the mishap.

“Like every year we were on our way to Kamakhyanagar to participate in the immersion ceremony of Maa. We were just 14km away when our vehicle hit a divider and turned turtle. Four have sustained injuries while the condition of one is serious,” informed a survivor.

Similarly, another survivor Trilochan Jena said, “Before we could understand anything, the vehicle overturned. We were sitting on top, but thanks to Maa Durga, we are all safe with minor injuries. A friend has lost his hand in the mishap.”

It was not immediately known if the driver dozed off or what happened that led to the mishap.
