At least six persons lost their lives in two separate road mishaps in Odisha on Sunday morning. The first incident was reported from Baripada. Two persons were killed while 10 others sustained grievous injuries after a Bolero van they were traveling in rammed into a roadside tree. The vehicle rammed into a tree near Rangamathia after the driver lost balance of the steering wheel.
The injured have been admitted to Baripada PRM Hospital. The tragic mishap occurred while the victims were on their way to attend a ‘Karam Natak’.
In another road mishap, two bikers were killed after their two-wheeler rammed into a stationary truck in Baripada.
However, they succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. Preliminary reports suggest the accidents were caused by slippery road conditions following incessant rainfall in the Mayurbhanj district.
Similarly in Bolangir, two youths were killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on National Highway 26 near Madhiapali. The two youths were on their way on a two-wheeler when an unidentified vehicle hit them from the rear and fled the scene.
Locals spotted the two lying in a pool of blood and alerted the cops. They were taken to Bolangir Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation to identify the vehicle that caused the accident.
