Two young engineering students on Tuesday lost their lives in a tragic road mishap on the Thakurmunda-Kaptipada road under Karanjia police limits in Mayurbhanj district. The deceased were students of SS Polytechnic College, Kalakad, sources said.

While the exact reason for the accident was not known immediately, it is suspected that their two-wheeler may have skidded off the road after the rider lost balance on the wheels. However, many suspect that they may have been hit by an over-speeding vehicle, leading to their death on the spot.

The incident occurred while the two friends were going on their Pulsar bike. Passers-by spotted their lifeless bodies and alerted the cops who rushed to the spot and launched a probe into the incident.

The bodies were seized and sent for autopsy. No comments could be obtained from the police or kin of the deceased. The incident has spread a pall of gloom in the area.

In another incident, a woman and her son were killed after their two-wheeler was hit by a truck on Karlaguda road in Bhawanipatna. The incident triggered outrage as angry residents caused a road blockade in the area.
