Rayagada: A huge quantity of rice and corn powder meant for anganwadi centers was seized and two persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in an inter-district racket involving diversion of nutritional food to traders. The police arrrested a  mini-truck driver and a godown owner and seized at least 23 bags of PDS rice and 27 bags of maize powder from the vehicle in Rayagada district on Monday, sourses said.

The commodities were being smuggled from Jamuguda village under Maoist-hit Bandhugaon block of Koraput district to a godown in Rayagada, the sources said. Sources said the seizure is just the tip of the iceberg. Pointing at a full-fledged racket in the district that functions in connivance with anganwadi workers and child development project officers, which diverts the high nutrition food to traders godowns.
