16 booked in UP for bungling pension fund
Balrampur: Sixteen people, including four Uttar Pradesh government officials, were booked for allegedly diverting a fund meant for physically-challenged people to some private schools in the state.
The Handicapped Welfare Department had given Rs 90 lakh to the district authority for providing pension to physically- challenged people in 2007-08 but the money was distributed as scholarship to nearly a dozen private schools, district magistrate Sunita Charturvedi said.
An inquiry was conducted into the matter after which an FIR was lodged against 16 people yesterday, she said. The district administration has sent a letter to the state government, recommending action against the officials involved in the irregularities, she said.
