Keonjhar: At least 11 persons were arrested on the charges of farming ganja plants and preparing country brew from "mahua" in Keojhar district, official sources said here today.

A flying squad of excise personnel from Keonjhar and Sambalpur raided several villages under Keonjhar sadar police station yesterday and nabbed the persons when they were watering ganja plants and preparing country brew, they said.

Besides ganja plants, the squad seized about 8,000 kg of crude "mahua", over 200 litres of country brew and different ingredients for cooking the brew from the spot.

The raids were conducted at Dhobadiha, Naranpur, Silisuan, Haridagotha, Kandarapasi, Judia, Mundasahi, Siripur and Baniapat, sources said.

The arrested persons were identified as Mitrabhanu Moharana, Dhanu Majhi, Mohan Murmu, Hira Marandi, Jogen Munda, Samara Munda, Lalmohan Munda, Babita Munda, Danar Nayak, Charan Murmu and Biju Nayak, they said.
