A day after Singapore’s coroner’s court was told that music icon Zubeen Garg was “severely intoxicated” before drowning, his wife Garima Saikia Garg on Thursday urged the Centre and the Assam government to closely monitor the proceedings at the highest level.

She appealed for strong diplomatic and legal intervention to ensure all facts are placed before the court and to pursue swift prosecution in India based on the chargesheet filed by the Assam Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Family raises unanswered questions

Garima said the family has submitted a list of crucial concerns, including the planning of the outing, Garg’s medical condition, safety measures on the yacht, and the exact circumstances in which he entered the sea. They also questioned the response of those present when he showed distress, the timing of medical aid, and the coroner’s initial finding of “no foul play.”

“Our family will not hesitate or compromise in the pursuit of truth,” she said, adding that Garg belonged not only to his family but also to Assam and its people.

SIT chargesheet adds new dimension

Zubeen Garg, 52, died while swimming near Lazarus Island in Singapore on September 19 last year, a day before his scheduled performance at the North East India Festival.
