More than 100 flights were cancelled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday as dense fog reduced visibility across north India, severely disrupting air traffic.
Officials said at least 66 arriving flights and 63 departures were cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that visibility at IGI Airport remained low during the morning hours, with general visibility recorded at just 500 metres at 11 am IST.
The weather agency said shallow to moderate fog is likely to persist during the night and early morning hours over the next few days. In its daily bulletin, the IMD forecast a partly cloudy sky for Delhi, with shallow fog at many places and moderate fog at a few locations until the forenoon.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued a weather advisory in a post on X, warning that reduced visibility across several parts of northern India could impact flight operations. Low-visibility procedures were implemented at major airports, including Delhi’s IGI Airport, to ensure passenger safety, news agency ANI reported.
Domestic carrier IndiGo also issued a travel advisory on X, cautioning passengers about possible disruptions to flights operating to and from Ranchi, Jammu and Hindon due to persistent fog. The airline said it was closely monitoring weather conditions and advised travellers to check flight status before heading to airports.
