He noted that the BSF’s National Training Centre for dogs in Tekanpur, Gwalior, focuses on breeds such as the Rampur Hound from Uttar Pradesh and the Mudhol Hound from Karnataka and Maharashtra. Similarly, the CRPF’s Dog Breeding and Training School in Bengaluru trains indigenous breeds including Mongrels, Mudhol Hounds, Kombai, and Pandikona.

PM Modi cited examples of the dogs’ outstanding performance in official duties. He recalled Riya, a Mudhol Hound trained by the BSF, winning first prize at the All India Police Duty Meet in Lucknow, surpassing several foreign breeds. He also highlighted an indigenous CRPF dog that detected eight kilograms of explosives during a patrol in Maoist-affected areas of Chhattisgarh, praising the courage and dedication of these dogs.
