'One-sided lover' shoots classmate inside classroom for refusing his marriage proposal

A disturbing incident of gun violence shocked Punjab on Monday after a male student allegedly shot dead his woman classmate inside a classroom at Mai Bhago Law College in Tarn Taran. The accused is said to have been upset after the woman repeatedly rejected his marriage proposals and recently got engaged to another man. The entire incident was captured on the college’s CCTV cameras.

According to police, the accused, identified as Prince Raj from Mallian village, entered the classroom with a bag shortly before classes began. He briefly spoke with the victim, Sandeep Kaur, and another woman student before the trio sat at the back of the room. Moments later, Prince Raj allegedly took out a pistol from his bag and shot Sandeep Kaur at point-blank range. He then turned the weapon on himself, triggering panic as students fled the classroom.

Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Naushehra Pannuan village, died on the spot. Prince Raj sustained a gunshot injury to his head and remains in critical condition at a hospital.

Motive Emerges from Family Statements

The victim’s family told India Today that Prince Raj had been harassing Sandeep for several months and had visited their home multiple times to propose marriage. Sandeep had rejected him, saying she wanted to focus on her studies. Her engagement three months ago reportedly left the accused deeply disturbed.

Sandeep’s elder sister, Manpreet Kaur, claimed Prince Raj had issued threats earlier. She described his behaviour as obsessive and one-sided.

Weapon Access and Security Concerns

Police suspect the pistol belonged to Prince Raj’s father, a former CRPF personnel. The incident has raised serious questions about weapon access and campus security. Sandeep’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and investigations are ongoing.

As police analyse CCTV footage and witness statements, the incident has sparked widespread concern over student safety, unchecked harassment and security lapses within educational institutions.
