In a major move to strengthen examination security, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will introduce facial recognition-based identity verification for the NEET and JEE examinations from 2026, officials announced.
The decision follows a successful pilot of Aadhaar-based face authentication technology conducted during NEET 2025 at select examination centres in Delhi. The technology was deployed to prevent impersonation and ensure that only genuine candidates appear for the tests.

More About The New Identity Verification System:
Under the new system, candidates will undergo real-time facial verification at examination centres. The process involves capturing a live photograph of the candidate, which will be matched with the image available in official databases to confirm identity.
Officials said the pilot demonstrated improved accuracy and efficiency in candidate verification. Based on the results, the NTA has decided to expand the system nationwide for major entrance exams from 2026.
The move is aimed at curbing malpractices such as impersonation and fraudulent entry, which have emerged as major concerns in large-scale competitive examinations.

The facial recognition system will function alongside existing verification mechanisms and is expected to significantly enhance transparency, fairness and credibility in national-level entrance exams like NEET and JEE.
