Meerut couple gets married amid first heavy snowfall in Uttarakhand

A couple from Meerut went viral after tying the knot amid heavy snowfall in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, coinciding with the festival of Basant Panchami and the region’s first major snowfall of the season. The wedding took place at the Triyuginarayan Temple, believed to be the sacred site where Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati were married.

A video shared on Instagram by Mahendra Semwal captured the bride in a bright red lehenga and the groom in a sherwani, walking through thick snow after their ceremony. The bride’s lehenga was carefully lifted by a companion while the groom, bundled in jackets, accompanied her. Despite the extreme weather, the couple expressed their happiness, saying, “Prabhu ka ashirwad mil gaya” (we have received the Lord's blessings). The snow-covered landscape and their joyous expressions quickly won hearts online, with many describing the wedding as unforgettable.

Snowfall Turns Uttarakhand into a Winter Wonderland

On Friday, Uttarakhand witnessed its first heavy snowfall of the year, affecting Garhwal and Kumaon regions including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Auli, Mussoorie, Chakrata, Dhanaulti, and Munsiyari. High-altitude areas such as China Peak and Kilbury in Nainital, Dunagiri in Almora, and Tarkeshwar in Pauri were also blanketed in snow. Locals and tourists shared videos of snow-laden roads, trees, and houses, transforming the state into a picturesque paradise.

Travel Disruptions Amid Heavy Snow

The snowfall, while scenic, caused logistical challenges. In Chamoli, some wedding parties had to walk up to 21 kilometers due to blocked roads. Officials said snow clearance operations are underway and urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and follow administrative instructions until conditions improve.
