Lalu Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya ‘disowns’ family, quits politics after RJD’s Bihar Poll setback

A dramatic turn of events unfolded within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Saturday as Rohini Acharya, daughter of party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, announced she is quitting politics and cutting ties with her family. Her declaration came just a day after the RJD faced a major electoral blow, winning only 25 seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections.

A Shock Exit After Election Debacle

Taking the entire blame for the party’s poor performance, Rohini posted an emotional message on X. In her statement, she alleged that Sanjay Yadav, a close aide of her brother Tejashwi Yadav, and his associate Rameez Alam, pressured her into taking such a step.

“I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family… This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do… and I’m taking all the blame,” she wrote.

Internal Party Dynamics Under the Spotlight

Political observers believe Rohini’s outburst is a pressure tactic, triggered by Tejashwi’s hesitation to act against Sanjay Yadav, who is widely seen as influencing decision-making around him. Rohini had earlier objected when Sanjay was spotted sitting in Tejashwi’s seat during the Tejashwi Yatra, a moment that reportedly upset several party members as well.

Sources say Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi have not yet pushed Tejashwi to take any disciplinary action, adding to Rohini’s frustration. Her announcement of “disowning the family” is being viewed as an attempt to force senior leaders to intervene.

Who Is Rohini Acharya?

Rohini, a medical graduate, lives in Singapore with her family. She earned nationwide respect after donating a kidney to her father. Last year, she contested the Saran Lok Sabha seat for RJD but lost to BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
