Passengers at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) allegedly faced severe inconvenience for the past two days amid the nationwide disruption of IndiGo services and widespread chaos caused by mass flight cancellations.
According to BPIA officials, two IndiGo flights scheduled to depart from Bhubaneswar on Tuesday were cancelled. Both services, one bound for Mumbai and the other for Bengaluru, were later rescheduled and eventually departed on Wednesday at 12.30 pm and 12.45 pm, respectively.
Similarly, at least two flights heading to Hyderabad and New Delhi were cancelled on Wednesday night. Around 9 pm, the Flight Information Display System (FIDS) notified that the Hyderabad and New Delhi flights, originally scheduled to leave at 10.10 pm and 10.20 pm respectively, would not operate.
Throughout the evening, anxious travellers were seen approaching the IndiGo reservation counter to seek updates on their flight status. Multiple delays in both arrivals and departures were recorded at BPIA during the day, and the IndiGo service to Mumbai from Bhubaneswar was delayed for the second day in a row on Wednesday.
Frustrated passengers took to social media to express their displeasure as IndiGo’s operations remained severely affected across major airports nationwide for the past 48 hours.
In addition to delays, passengers also faced repeated cancellations and rescheduled tickets.
Despite the disturbance, BPIA director Prasanna Pradhan said there were no delays in flight operations up to the evening, as reported by TNIE.
