The Perfect Crime — Planned by a Forensics Student

Investigations revealed that Meena’s 21-year-old live-in partner, Amrita Chauhan, a forensic science student, had plotted the murder with her ex-boyfriend Sumit Kashyap, an LPG distributor, and Sandeep Kumar, a friend, all residents of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Amrita’s rage stemmed from discovering that Meena had secretly recorded her private videos and refused to delete them. Seeking revenge, she confided in Sumit, and together they devised a plan that combined her forensic knowledge with his expertise in gas mechanics to make the killing look like an accident.

A Deadly Night in Gandhi Vihar

On the night of October 5–6, the trio reached Meena’s fourth-floor flat. CCTV footage captured two masked men and a woman entering the building. Minutes after they left, an explosion tore through the apartment. Initially suspected to be an AC blast, forensic findings soon revealed signs of strangulation and deliberate arson.

According to police, they doused Meena’s body in ghee, oil, and alcohol, and then opened the gas valve to trigger the blast.

Twist of Fate: Science Turns Against the Student

Amrita’s phone location and call records exposed her role, leading to her arrest on October 18. Sumit and Sandeep were caught days later and confessed to the crime, admitting they fled with Meena’s belongings to destroy evidence.

DCP (North) Raja Banthia said all three are now in custody. What began as a love affair between a forensics student and an aspirant ended as a calculated crime of passion, where science and emotion collided with deadly consequences.
