Amrit Bharat Express strengthens affordable rail connectivity across India; 30 trains operational, 9 more added

New Delhi: The Amrit Bharat Express has emerged as a key pillar in India’s long-distance rail network, offering affordable and extensive connectivity across regions while addressing the travel needs of millions of everyday passengers.

Since its launch in December 2023, 30 Amrit Bharat Express trains have become operational across the country, with nine new services recently added to expand coverage. The network now connects the Northeast, eastern, central, western and southern India, linking border areas, major cities and important pilgrimage centres.

According to the government, the Amrit Bharat Express is designed to bridge regional gaps and improve mobility for employment, education, healthcare and family travel. The service plays a vital role in strengthening economic integration and social connectivity, particularly for passengers dependent on non-AC long-distance travel.

A major highlight of the Amrit Bharat Express is its simple and affordable fare structure. With fares of around Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometres, and proportionately lower prices for short and medium-distance journeys, the trains operate without dynamic pricing, ensuring transparency and predictability for passengers.

The trains are fully non-AC and are configured with 11 General Class coaches, eight Sleeper Class coaches, one Pantry Car, and two Second Class–cum–Luggage–cum–Guard Vans, including disabled-friendly compartments. Designed to meet the needs of the general public, the coaches offer a modern and comfortable travel experience within the non-AC segment.

The government said enhanced rail access through the Amrit Bharat Express supports workforce mobility, tourism, and trade while improving access to education and healthcare across multiple regions.

By combining affordability, wide geographic reach and passenger-centric design, the Amrit Bharat Express is positioned to play a lasting role in connecting people, regions and opportunities, making it a significant milestone for everyday rail travellers in India.
