The Committee on Public Undertakings (CoPU), chaired by BJP National Vice President and Kendrapara MP Baijayant 'Jay' Panda, created parliamentary history on Thursday by presenting 11 reports in a single day. This surpasses its previous record of eight reports during the 2024–25 session and reflects the 18th CoPU’s intensified focus on strengthening accountability and transparency in public sector management.

The set of reports tabled includes six Action Taken Reports (ATRs) and five Original Reports, which together cover detailed studies, a horizontal review, and an audit-based examination. These reports highlight the committee’s rigorous scrutiny of the performance, governance, and financial condition of Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). 

A key highlight is the Action Taken Report on the timely submission of Action Taken Notes (ATNs) by various Ministries and Departments on C&AG observations.

What Is The Committee on Public Undertakings?

The government has accepted all of CoPU’s recommendations, and the APMS-CoPU software, aimed at improving ATN tracking and compliance, is expected to go live in January 2026. This digital initiative is seen as a major step toward promoting faster and more efficient responses to audit findings.

The Committee on Public Undertakings consists of 22 members, 15 elected from the Lok Sabha and seven nominated by the Rajya Sabha

The Speaker appoints the Chairperson. The Ministers are not eligible to be members of the Committee. If a sitting member is appointed as a Minister after being elected, their membership in the Committee automatically ends from the date of appointment.
