The outstanding performances of South Indian especially Telugu movies doing exceptionally well at the box office has once again renewed the ongoing debate between South vs Hindi. While Telugu movies are shattering box office records, Hindi movies are yet to reclaim their lost glory.
Despite the temporary resurgence with Jawan, Pathaan, Animal and Gadar 2, the conversation has shifted back in favour of South cinema, especially after the stupendous success of Baahubali, RRR, Kalki, Salaar and Pushpa.
Amidst the debate, filmmaker Nikkhil Advani recently shared a compelling insight from Telugu stylish star Allu Arjun. Nikkhil revealed how Allu Arjun had once pointed out a critical issue he sees in Bollywood with a single line.
“You all have forgotten how to be heroes,” Allu said to Nikkhil. During the interview with Galatta Plus, Nikkhil elaborated on Allu Arjun’s observation, explaining that South industry have successfully tapped into the core emotions of heroism, even when dealing with mundane subjects. The South films packages the story themes with spectacular action and moments of sheer heroism, making them resonate deeply with the audience.
“Everyone thinks about south cinema being mythology and everything, but they take the core emotion. Like water irrigation, let’s make a film about it and now they have packaged them with incredible action, incredible moments of heroism,” Nikkhil said.
