Panic gripped locals after body of a youth with injury marks was recovered near Baliapanda light house area in Puri on Wednesday. The identity of the deceased youth is yet to be ascertained. However, from an ATM card it has been found that the deceased youth hails from Balasore district.
On getting information, Baliapanda police reached the spot and started an investigation. It is suspected that the deceased youth has some criminal antecedents and it is also under verification.
As no signs of tussle or resistance has been found on the sand at the beach, it is suspected that the youth has been killed somewhere and his body was dumped at the beach area.
A forensic team also visited the spot to conduct further investigation in connection with the recovery of the youth’s body.
Puri Additional SP, Sushil Mishra said, “It appears that the youth has been beaten to death and a murder case has been registered. From ATM card verification, we have ascertained that the deceased is from outside Puri.”
According to Mishra, the family members have been informed and the identity can be established only after they come and identify.
