The Titilagarh police on Sunday arrested a man on the charges of duping a family of Rs 24 lakh on the pretext of providing jobs. The accused had taken the amount from a woman to provide jobs to her children.
The victim has been identified as Geetanjali Munda while the accused has been identified as Suraj Kumar Pandey. Based on a complaint by the victim, police registered a case and produced him before the court. He was later sent to judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea.
According to sources, Pandey convinced Geetanjali that he would get a loco pilot job in Railways for her son. He also promised that he would help her daughter get a job and demanded the money.
Trusting him, the family transferred money to the accused. However, time and again, Pandey kept them waiting on some or the other pretext. After losing all her hard-earned money, Geetanjali finally understood that she had been conned and approached the police and lodged a written complaint.
Based on Geetanjali’s complaint, police arrested the accused while a further probe into the case is on.
“Geetanjali Munda had filed a report that Suraj had taken Rs 24 lakh from her on the pretext of getting GNM job for her daughter and loco pilot job for her son. We carried an investigation and subsequently arrested him. He has been forwarded to the court,” informed Titilagarh SDPO Ankita Kumbhar.
