In Bhubaneswar's Dhauli area, bar owner Shiva Prasad Mallik and his associate Jyoti Prakash Nayak were arrested for allegedly harassing and torturing bar girls. The victims claimed they were forced into explicit acts without pay. The Commissionerate Police’s HER Team rescued the girls after a raid.

A bar owner and his associate were arrested for allegedly harassing and torturing ‘bar girls’ in the Dhauli area of the Capital City. The accused duo has been identified as Shiva Prasad Mallik and his associate Jyoti Prakash Nayak.

According to sources, at least six bar dancers worked in the bar owned by the accused Shiva. The owner along with Jyoti threatened the victims and kept them in captivity without paying their dues for the last six months.

The victims alleged that they were forced to perform explicit dances, and immoral acts without their consent. They were made to work overtime till late at night without any pay, the victims complained. They were allegedly threatened and scolded using filthy language by Shiva and Jyoti if anyone dared to open their mouth and ask for their wages.

The matter came to the fore after the girls mustered courage and informed the Commissionerate Police’s ‘HER Team’ about their plight. On being alerted, the Commissionerate Police conducted a surprise raid at the bar, rescued the girls, and arrested the accused owner and his associate.

Based on the statements of the victims, a complaint has been filed in this connection and further probe into the incident has been launched. The two have been forwarded to court.

However, Shiva refuted the allegations and claimed he was innocent and had cleared all their dues.
