Sonia condoles loss in Arunachal bridge mishap
New Delhi: Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives in the bridge collapse mishap in Arunachal Pradesh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today asked authorities to take all necessary relief measures.
"Gandhi expresses her deep grief and sorrow over the tragic loss of life in the suspension bridge collapse over Campeng river in Arunachal Pradesh. The Congress President has asked the local authorities to place all relief measures for service of the affected," a party release said here.
Six people had died and 25 are missing after the rope suspension bridge over the river collapsed in East Kameng district. 29 people were rescued on Saturday with five in a serious condition. The injured were admitted to the nearby district hospital and medical centres.
Along with the state police, rescue teams from ITBP and CRPF have been pushed into the mission to trace and rescue the survivors. The district administration has requested the nearby army units stationed at Tenga Cantonment in West Kameng to provide its assistance in the rescue operation. Governor Gen J J Singh and Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin have expressed grief over the mishap.
