Bhubaneswar: Veteran journalist and union leader Rabi Narayan Mohanty died here on Sunday after prolonged illness.

He was 68 and survived by wife, four sons and three daughters, family sources said.

Mohanty, who had been suffering from kidney related ailment for the past eight months, died at a private hospital.

After starting his career as a journalist in the 60s, Mohanty had worked in several Oriya newspapers including `Kalinga` and `Prajatantra` and was the editor of `Nyayabati` till death.

A founder member of Orissa Journalists` Union, he had worked as its Secretary and President.

Mohanty had functioned as the President of Orissa Journalist Welfare Board and Vice-President of National Journalist Union.
