At the Meta Connect event on September 25, Meta introduced the ‘Orion’ AR glasses, currently a prototype.

These glasses create a virtual space without blocking your view. Meta also launched the affordable Meta Quest 3S mixed reality headset and announced new features for the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

Meta Orion Glasses

Meta described the Orion glasses as their most advanced AR glasses yet. They use transparent lenses instead of an opaque screen, allowing virtual images to be projected onto them.

The Orion glasses include holographic displays, enabling users to place both 2D and 3D content anywhere they want. Powered by Meta AI, these glasses help users understand their surroundings in real-time and can even suggest information based on what they see.

However, the Orion glasses are not available for purchase yet, as Meta is focusing on internal development to improve their products.

Key Features of Orion

The Orion glasses offer a 70-degree field of view, which Meta claims is the largest for any AR glasses in this size.

This feature allows for various immersive experiences, such as multitasking, big-screen entertainment, and life-size holograms that blend into the real world.

The glasses use a new display technology with tiny uLED projectors in the arms that send light into special lenses. These lenses have tiny 3D structures that create holograms at different depths.

Users can interact with the glasses using AI voice control, hand and eye tracking, and a wrist-based neural interface with an EMG (electromyography) wristband.

Additionally, during the Meta Connect event, Meta announced new features for the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

These glasses will help users remember tasks, such as where they parked their car. Users can now set reminders using voice commands and record and send voice notes directly through Messenger and WhatsApp.
