Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Indian Railways has posed a challenge before 296 young tech students to develop a software solution that helps in online registration of First Information Report (FIR).

The students who are going to participate in the Smart Indian Hackathon 2018, to be conducted in Udaipur on March 30, have been asked to develop an algorithm to store all the data, including the location, whenever a train passenger calls any helpline number of Indian Railways to report a crime.

The other solution sought by the railways is a software solution for passengers to receive announcements in real time on their personal electronic devices, as some passengers face difficulty in hearing public announcements at stations, because of the ambient noise.

The railways also wants a software to sort out feedback of passengers and send them to concerned sections for early redressal of the same. Besides, the railways also want software solutions for rest house bookings, rolling stock maintenance and telecom connectivity among others.
