However, one of the iconic roles he played in the comedy genre was in Laawaris. Fans still remember his iconic role in the movie's memorable song 'Mere Agne Mein...' in which he dressed up as a woman. Big B was seen wearing a saree, adorned with makeup, kajal, lipstick, and more. He changed his getup throughout the song and danced to his own voice.

While this iconic song showcased his willingness to take up unconventional roles, his getup in this beloved classic fumed and disheartened many including the Angry Young Man's wife Jaya Bachchan and Superstar Rajesh Khanna.

Old Video Of Big B Lifting Jaya While Singing, 'Mere angne mein...'

Recently, an old video of Amitabh Bachchan has resurfaced in which he is seen lifting his wife Jaya Bachchan in his arms while singing 'Mere angne mein...'

In this clip, Amitabh sings his iconic song. When he reaches the line ‘jiski biwi chhoti’, Big B stops and says, “Yeh waali main apne ghar se laa raha hun bhaiya.” 

Further, he repeats the words ‘chhoti’ and ‘naati’ and lifts Jaya in his arms. Next, Jaya holds the mic near his mouth helping him to complete the song, “Arre god mein baitha lo, bachche ka kya kaam hai.”

How Jaya Reacted When She First Watched Big B Dressed As a Woman?

During an appearance on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Amitabh was asked if Jaya had ever reacted strongly react to his work. Recalling the incident, Big B said, "There isn’t a single film where the madam has not got up with great repulsion and walked out of the theatre."

However, Jaya, who accompanied him to the show, intervened and said, "That's not true."

In response, Amitabh recalled the incident and said to Simi, "Do you remember a film called Laawaris that I worked on?" After getting confirmation, he added, "We did a drag number in that called ‘Mere Angne Mein’. When the song started, during the time when we were seeing the rushes, she walked up to me, shouted in my ear and said, ‘How can you dare do something like this?’ And stormed out." 

Well, Jaya admitted it and said, “I was absolutely repulsed by it. It was really bad."

How Kaka Reacted to Babu Moshai's 'Mere angne mein...' Getup?

With the rise of Amitabh Bachchan in the 1970s, Rajesh Khanna's superstardom declined. Everyone is well aware of the competition, tension and differences between the iconic actors.

Amid the intense feud, Kaka expressed disdain towards Babu Moshai's getup in the chartbuster song.
