Jaipur: A Rajasthan government official today said that the issue of health hazards allegedly caused by mobile towers radiation would be taken up with the Union government in public interest. Speaking at a seminar, Principal Secretary (UDH) G S Sandhu said that there should be a proper policy to keep away health hazards, if any, while maintaining uninterrupted services of cellular providers.

"The government of Rajasthan wrote to the Department of Telecom for providing experts to check whether radiation emitted by mobile towers is causing health hazards. We will now again take the matter with the Union government in public interest", he said. Sandhu said that the policy should be balanced enough to tackle the issue of alleged impact of radiation on the health of people while maintaining seamless connectivity of the mobile network.

In the seminar, experts and private doctors gave technical presentations highlighting that there is no scientific evidence to prove that the radiation emitted by the mobile towers have adverse impact on health. DoT and Telecommunication Engineering Centre officials also gave presentations about the norms and procedure for setting up mobile towers and other related factors.
