Hasan (WB): The helicopter carrying senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee could not land at the scheduled ground under Hasan Assembly segment in Birbhum district today despite two attempts as the pilot failed to locate the smoke signal.
"The pilot could not find the location because the smoke signal was not visible. We kept circling in the sky. We tried to land twice but failed," Mukherjee told an election rally later.
The pilot then landed at Nalhati, the constituency of his son Abhijit Mukherjee, few kilometers away from the scheduled spot, police sources said.
Mukherjee finally reached the venue at Hasan at around 1 pm, over two hours after the scheduled time, by car.
"I am sorry for being late," the union finance minister said and then explained the events.
