New Delhi:  With Anna Hazare agitation over, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his office have gone into action mode, initiating process to review progress in various crucial sectors, including energy, infrastructure and defence.

The review started with the energy sector last week when a decision was taken to fast-track the new Mine and Mineral Act and give impetus to power generation which is expected to touch a record level of 17,000 MW this year alone.

The decisions to give fillip to the energy sector were taken at a review meeting convened by the Prime Minister`s Principal Secretary T K A Nair with Secretaries of nine ministries and departments, including Coal, Power, Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Steel and New and Renewable Energy.

This was followed by a meeting convened by the Prime Minister on defence, sources said.

The meeting focused on strengthening coastal security and speeding up development of infrastructure on the China border, they said.

In this next week, the Prime Minister will be taking stock of other key sectors like education and health, which are his focus areas considering their importance for development of the country, the sources said.

Review of physical infrastructure like development of highways and roads is also on the cards along with social sector, they said.

The series of review meetings comes after the end of Hazare agitation during which the government appeared to be focused entirely on defusing the situation.
