Kalbaisakhi warning issued for 13 Odisha districts, nor’wester brings temporary relief from heat

The intense summer heat in Odisha has slightly eased due to the influence of Kalbaisakhi (Nor’wester) storms. However, high humidity levels continue to cause discomfort across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a five-day thunderstorm alert, warning of lightning, gusty winds, and possible downpours in several regions.

Yellow Warning Issued

For today, a Yellow Warning has been issued for 13 districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. These areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph.

While the Kalbaisakhi storms have brought short-term relief, the IMD predicts no significant change in the overall weather pattern until May 25. Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity and take necessary precautions.
