New Delhi: The crisis at the Koodankulam nuke plant in Tamil Nadu has taken a curious turn with the Centre for Public interest Litigation on Friday filing a PIL in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of the Nuclear Liability Act. The PIL has sought a reassessment of all nuclear facilities in India and their long-term cost benefit analysis.

Meanwhile, anti nuclear plant protests took an ugly turn at the plant with the police beating up 4 disabled youths who haf been taking part in the agitation. Protests have escalated at the nuke plant site with thousands continuing with their fasts demanding the scrapping of the project.

On Thursday, 700 protesters blocked roads and stopped over 700 scientists and other officials of the plant from entering the site. Although the PM had urged Tamil Nadu chief Minister Jayalalithaa to support the plant, she, however, said that she would go along with the locals.
