Torrential rains for the last few days have wreaked havoc and thrown life out of gear in several parts of Odisha.
At least 30 villages were cut off from the mainland as excess rainwater is flowing over Samaleswari canal under Kantamal block in Boudh district on Wednesday. Several acres of farmlands in the area have been submerged in rainwater causing damage to the crops.
Moreover, several places in the area have been waterlogged. As a result, commuters are facing problems in their daily communication. Making things worse, overflowing rainwater has entered the premises of Boudh Central School, GST office, District Industrial Center Office, ADG’s government quarter and police canteen in Boudh. Communication has been halted along the road in front of Boudh Central School as five-feet high flood water is flowing on the road.
Similarly, residents of Athagarh are also facing several problems due to the rain fury. A wall has collapsed and as a result, excess rainwater has entered houses due to blockage in the main drain near Chandbali square in ward number 5 under Athagarh NAC.
Communication along the old Cuttack-Sambalpur road has been halted due to heavy waterlogging.
Road communication has been snapped in at least five panchayats due to the overflowing of Ghungi canal near Bhutiapalli along Birmaharajpur-Amrapali road in Subarnapur district. Vehicular movement along Sambalpur and Rairkhol road has been halted because of waterlogging triggered by incessant rain.
