Thrissur (Ker): A petition seeking a probe into the alleged amassing of wealth by relatives of NHRC Chairman and former CJI K G Balakrishnan was on Friday posted by a court here to February 28 for a detailed hearing.

When the case came up before special judge (Vigilance), petitioner George Vattukulam, state president of the Kerala Malayala Vedi (Forum), sought time to produce more evidence to substantiate the allegations against Balakrishnan`s relatives.

Following the plea, judge V Jayaram posted the case to February 28 for detailed hearing and production of more evidence.

The petitioner had alleged that Balakrishnan`s brother K G Bhaskaran, former special government pleader in the Kerala High Court and his two sons-in-law, P V Sreenijan and M A Benny had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income and a probe should be launched against them.

Sreenijan, an advocate and former Youth Congress leader, resigned from the party following media reports that they had purchased various properties and amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income.

Bhaskaran also resigned following the allegations.

The reports had also alleged that Benny had purchased vast properties.
