Srinagar: In a first such attempt aiming to boost morale of its employees, the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) has awarded 12 of its employees for their performance in different sectors.

The awards were presented by JKSRTC Managing Director J S Tandon during a state function at the corporation headquarters here yesterday, an official spokesman said.

While six employees were awarded gold medal, a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each and a citation certificate, six others received silver medal, a cash award of Rs 3,000 and a certificate, he said, adding that this is the first time special awards have been instituted to honour meritorious workers.

In his address, Tandon said the working environment in the corporation has improved "tremendously", resulted in overall growth.

He informed that the corporation is paying wages to its employees as per Sixth Pay Commission from its own resources.

The MD said the corporation has established a driving institute at Bemina locality of Srinagar.
