Kolkata: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today said that she will not be in the race for the US presidency in 2016.

Asked whether she was would be a presidential candidate in the 2016 elections to become her country`s first woman president, Clinton replied in the negative, saying "It`s time for me to step off the highway."

To a question at an interactive session whether she thought the US was ready for a woman president or was it a long way to go, she said, "I don`t think so and I hope to see that happen in my lifetime. "I think our political system is most difficult to navigate for both men and women, but particularly women," Clinton said.

"We have a pretty hard glass ceiling in the US," she said, explaining why the United States has not yet had a woman president.

"I want to come back to India and wander about without the streets being closed," Clinton, who has been the US First Lady during her husband Bill Clinton`s presidency, said in a lighter vein referring to the stringent security arrangements in the metropolis for her visit.
