New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has constituted an advocacy group comprising 12 senior journalists to advise it in seeking enhanced and active role of media in creating awareness on human rights issues.

The `Advisory Group on the Media and Human Rights` will be chaired by NHRC Chairperson Justice K G Balakrishnan.

"The Advisory Group has been set up as part of media and outreach policy of the Commission formed recently. The aim of the Advisory Group is to have regular interaction with media and to seek its enhanced and active role in promotion and protection of the human rights of the common man," an NHRC spokesperson said.

The group will advise the Commission on how best to use media to promote human rights in the country and to review the existing mechanism of the Commission with regard to `Media and Outreach Policy` and make suggestions for further improvement.

It will also advise the Commission in seeking enhanced and active role of media in creating awareness amongst masses on the human rights issues.

The members of the advisory group include PTI Editor-in-Chief and CEO M K Razdan, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu N Ram, Editor-in-Chief of Hindustan Times Sanjoy Narayan, resident editor of The Week K S Sachidanand Murthy and Editor and CEO of Dainik Jagran Sanjay Gupta.
