Guwahati: Increase in both passenger and freight earnings have boosted revenues of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway during 2011-12.

The gross apportioned earnings of the Guwahati- headquartered NF Railway on originating basis in 2011-12 stood at Rs 2,808.28 crore as against Rs 2,616.06 in the previous financial year, a growth of 7.34 per cent.

"This achievement could be attained as a result of several actions like freight incentives on empty flow direction, regular interaction with traders, close monitoring on supply of wagons, quick release of wagons and improvement in loading/unloading terminals," NF Railway Chief Public Relations Officer S Hajong said.

The total goods earnings of NF Railway went up by 9.83 per cent to Rs 1,435.10 in 2011-12 from Rs 1,307.09 crore in 2010-11. Similarly, total passenger revenue earnings of NF Railway in 2011-12 were Rs 648.67 crore as compared to Rs 586.75 crore in the last fiscal, a jump of 10.55 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching segments stood at Rs 105.56 crore in the last fiscal compared to Rs 104.69 crore, a marginal rise of 0.83 per cent. The total originating loading from stations in NF Railway in 2011-12 was 13.04 million tonnes, which was the highest in last five fiscal years.
