IMF Managing Director, Christine Lagarde would be travelling to New Delhi for the two-day conference on `China and India-Sustaining High Quality Growth` to be held in New Delhi on March 19-20.
Being co-hosted by the China Society for Finance and Banking, and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, the two-day conference will bring together policy makers, leading academics and private sector representatives, providing an opportunity to discuss the growth successes of China and India, the world body said.
To be inaugurated by India`s Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, the conference will see keynote remarks from both countries` delegations. Lagarde will participate in the closing roundtable discussion.
According to IMF, the event will focus on identifying the policies that are key to sustaining strong and inclusive growth over the medium term in India and China.
"... What financial reforms are needed in China and India in light of the global financial crisis? How can these two countries cope with periods of global financial instability? How can poverty and inequality be reduced and sufficient resources allocated to these goals? The conference will debate these and other issues," it said.
The conference is part of the strengthened ongoing engagement between IMF and Asia and one of a series of high-level events in the region ahead of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in October later this year, the world body said.
