Patna: Navin Kumar, a 1975-batch IAS officer, would be new Chief Secretary of Bihar.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appointed Kumar as new Chief Secretary, an official notification issued by the state General Administration Department here said today.

Kumar, who is currently Union Drinking Water and Sanitation Department Secretary, would replace Anup Mukherjee, who would be retiring on September 30.

Kumar would take over the charge of Chief Secretary from Mukherjee on September 30, official sources said.

Kumar, a post-graduate in physics was prior to his appointment as Union Drinking Water and Sanitation Department Secretary, was secretary in the Union Urban Development Ministry.

Kumar was on central deputation since March 2010 and he had also held the post of the state Development Commissioner.

He had earlier also headed the state Investment Planning Board, formed by the Nitish government to attract investment and the board was successful in mobilising proposals worth Rs 96,000 crore in just three years.
