Jabalpur: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said the state government was in the process of changing its mining policy with an aim to create balance between availability of raw material and ecological harmony.

Because of high bidding in sand mining, big players get work and sometime they cause threat to river ecology, Chouhan told reporters here last evening. The government wants to check big players and open avenues for small contractors in sand mining, he said.

Despite constraints, the state has managed to attain an average growth rate of 10.2 per cent in the 11th five-year plan, he mentioned.

The chief minister charged the opposition Congress with trying to influence the Centre to desist from timely requirements of the state including fertilizers, gunny bags and coal.
