Odisha Vigilance has apprehended Sisir Kumar Naik, an Amin at Kutra Tahasil, Sundargarh district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000, on Wednesday.
According to sources, the accused was caught red-handed while taking a bribe from a complainant in exchange for preparing a sketch map required for the partition of land records (ROR) as per a court order.
Despite receiving the court's directive, Naik initially demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant for the preparation of the sketch map, which was necessary for issuing separate RORs. However, the complainant, unable to afford the demanded sum, negotiated and brought the amount down to Rs 6,000. Feeling harassed and left with no alternative, the complainant approached the Odisha Vigilance authorities for assistance.
Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officers laid a trap and apprehended Naik while accepting the bribe. The entire bribe amount was recovered from his exclusive possession and seized as evidence.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Naik to investigate any disproportionate assets he may possess.
