The duo secured loans using the documents before fleeing. The scam surfaced when finance companies sought EMI payments. A complaint has been filed at Purushottampur police station.

An Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker and her daughter allegedly duped around 60 women by collecting various documents on the pretext of providing healthcare services to them. The incident has been reported from Rushipur village under Purushottampur police limits in Ganjam district.

According to sources, as many as 60 women of the village have formed a group by making the ASHA worker Kuni Patnaik and her daughter Pinki Patnaik as the leader.

The duo collected several documents and signatures from the members of the group and availed loans from various finance companies before fleeing the village, sources added.

The matter came to the fore after representatives of the finance companies visited the houses of the members of the group over nonpayment of Equated Monthly Installment (EMI).

Meanwhile, the victimised women have lodged a complaint against the ASHA worker and her daughter at Purushottampur police station. 

“The ASHA worker and her daughter availed loans using our documents and we were not aware of it,” alleged a victim.

Echoing the same, another victim said, “The ASHA worker has all my documents with her and she availed loans from five to six finance companies in my name. Now, the finance company agents are asking me to repay the loan.”

No comments from the police could be obtained over the matter.
