Sambalpur: A gang of masked miscreants looted Rs 1.15 lakh from a rural bank branch at Bhojpur in Sambalpur district on Tuesday.
 
The gang members also looted two bikes and six mobile phones from the staff and the customers of Utkala Grameen Bank, police said adding the incident took place at around 12 noon today when customers were in the bank.
 
Three members of the gang entered the bank brandishing revolvers, while two of them waited outside. They took the bank manager and cashier to the strong room and looted the money at gunpoint.
 
After looting the cash from the strong room and the counter, they snatched the mobile phones of the bank staff and the customers, said the cashier Laba Kumar Singh.
 
A customer complained that the looters took away the keys of his motorbike and that of another man after threatening them with a gun before escaping.
 
The Bhojpur Utkala Grameen Bank is a small branch with only three staff.
 
Sub-divisional police officer of Kuchinda, Radha Binod Panigrahi said it was suspected that the dacoits belong to local area and all the exit and entry routes of the town.
 
Five teams have been formed to nab them.
