New Delhi: Three Corps Commander Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag, who was issued a show cause notice by Gen V K Singh during his last days as army chief in connection with a failed intelligence operation in Assam, filed his reply on May 31, the day V K Singh retired. Lt Gen Suhag in his reply filed on May 31 has explained the handling of the entire episode by the 3 Corps Headquarters and the actions taken by it, sources close to the 3 Corps Commander said here.

The notice was issued to the officer, who can head the Army in 2014, on May 19 by Gen V K Singh to respond to the charges of "abdicating responsibility" in handling an intelligence and surveillance unit under his command in a "most unprofessional and lackadaisical manner". Lt Gen Suhag was earlier given only seven days to respond to the notice but was later given ten more days to do so after the Defence Ministry sought a detailed reply form the Army Headquarters about the entire episode.

Due to the Discipline and Vigilance ban imposed on him for the alleged lapses in the issue, Suhag`s promotion as Eastern Army Commander has also been held up. The post is lying vacant since Gen Bikram Singh moved from there five days ago to take over as the Chief of Army Staff.
