Bhubaneswar: Amid the ongoing protests over the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has also been raised again by Rs 25 per cylinder on Thursday, making an overall increase of Rs 200 per cylinder in the last three months.
Reportedly after increasing LPG prices twice in December last year, the government has hiked the prices of the cooking gas thrice in February alone this year.
On February 4, Rs 25 hike per cylinder was effected which was followed by Rs 50 on February 14 and Rs 25 per cylinder on February 25, making a century in just one month.
Earlier on December 1 last year, the price per cylinder was hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder, followed by a hike of Rs 50 again on December 16 due to firming of international prices.
As per reports, with the new increase, residents in Delhi will now be paying Rs 794 per Cylinder of LPG. While the residents in Bhubaneswar will be paying Rs 820.50 per cylinder and consumers in Sambalpur will shell out Rs 855 per cylinder of LPG.
Generally, hike in LPG prices are effected when petrol prices in India go up.
The price of LPG gas cylinders is determined by state-run oil companies and is revised on a monthly basis.
Depending on international fuel rates and US dollar-rupee exchange rates, the prices can go up or down.
It is important to mention here that, the government of India is currently providing subsidy on the sale of domestic LPG cylinders to the consumers. The subsidy amount is directly credited to the individual’s bank account after the purchase of the cylinder.
