Bangalore: Stepping up the offensive, BJP in Karnataka today said it would launch an agitation against Governor H R Bhardwaj for recommending President`s Rule in the State even as it sought his recall.

"Governor Hatao, State Bachao andolan will commence today itself," Party spokesman C T Ravi said.

Senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu charged the Governor with "trying to rule the State through backgate".

He said BJP would not allow the Governor to "topple" the party`s Government in the state and accused Bhardwaj of trying to "murder democracy".

The Centre should not accept the Governor`s recommendation, he told reporters here.

The BJP was ready to prove the majority of its government, "whether it`s here or in New Delhi," Naidu said, and demanded Bhardwaj`s recall.
