After the historic victory against Australia in the group B match at the Paris Olympics 2024, the Indian hockey team has been bolstered.
All pumped up after the hard-fought 3-2 win against formidable Australia, skipper of the Indian hockey team Harmanpreet Singh said that the team is giving their everything to win India their ninth gold medal in hockey at the Olympic Games.
The victory was the first by an Indian hockey team over Australia in 52 years in the Olympic Games. The last victory had come in Munich in 1972.
“We are looking forward to give India its ninth hockey gold. We are giving our everything to win that gold medal. But the main tournament is starting now. So the quarterfinals, the semifinals, those matches are very crucial. So we are just looking to give our best,” said Harmanpreet.
“We started the Paris Olympics by winning, and we decided we were going to finish with a winning match. We put them under pressure and the pressure was so good from the frontline. And our motto was to score the first goal. So we did it and I think after that we managed very well. Because everybody knows that the Australians come full press, so the positioning and scanning was good today, the way we managed the ball,” he added.
