A seaside outing turned tragic on Monday morning after three tourists were swept away while bathing at Tajpur Beach, located along the West Bengal-Odisha border. While one youth has been confirmed dead, another remains missing, and the third was rescued alive.
According to sources, the group had entered the sea early in the morning when strong waves overpowered them, dragging all three into deeper waters. The incident triggered an immediate response from the local administration, which deployed a speed rescue team to the site.
Two Rescued, One Succumbed
Rescue personnel successfully pulled out two of the three tourists, but one was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital in Jaleswar.
The third individual is still unaccounted for, and search operations are underway with the help of trained divers and coastal patrols. The victims are reportedly from the Barasat region of West Bengal, though their identities have not been officially disclosed.
Other Drowning Incidents Reported in Odisha
It is worth noting that four lives have been lost in separate incidents reported from Odisha in the past thirty days.

In Koraput district, two more bodies, a young man and a woman, were found in the Jalaput reservoir near Lamtaput. The duo, missing since the previous evening, was recovered by fire personnel after hours of search.
