Irom Sharmila ends 16-year-long fast

Imphal, Aug 9 (IANS) ‘Iron Lady’ Irom Sharmila on Tuesday ended her 16-year-long fast against the AFSPA and announced her intention to join politics. Doctors removed the nasal feed tube from Sharmila, who has been on fast unto death since 2000 to protest the imposition of the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Manipur.
